Keeping Your Summer Motivation
If you’re anything like me, your favorite excuse to put off reading that book you said you were gonna read last month, trying out that new yoga class, or starting a blog is “I’ll do it when I have more time.” Well, it’s summer and now there is plenty of time. It’s not the easiest task to get motivated after procrastinating for so long, but the ladies of Salty Cali are here to offer some of their best advice to start the day!
Tip from Melinda: Write Out Your Bucket List or To-Do’s.
It’s easy to get lost in the summer buzz, but you should find some time to sit down and make a bucket list of all the things you want to get done. Your list is specific to you so feel free to get creative! The list could have some new adventures or activities that push yourself out of your comfort zone like rock climbing or taking a dance class. It could even be something smaller like doing a weekly face mask or trying a new smoothie flavor. If it’s none of these things, that’s cool too. Whatever you want to do, write it down. A list will give you purpose and sense of direction to help keep you motivated. You control how you want your summer to be so make it a good one.
Tip from Arielle: Make A Schedule!
This tip seems similar to Melinda’s, but this is the next step you should take after making your bucket list. Summer goes by faster than we think so having a daily or monthly schedule can help you plan out all the events you want to attend or things you want to do so that it all actually gets done in time. This is especially helpful if you have work or school tasks that need to get done by a certain date! A subtip is to start waking up earlier in the morning so that you have plenty of time in the day to accomplish your list of daily goals. Put your new sleeping schedule into your calendar and set your alarm clock so you are motivated to stick to it.
Tip from Selina: Get Dressed Up!
We all put on clothes everyday, but nothing motivates me more for my day than putting on a cute dress or new pair of shoes. Styling a new outfit is enough to motivate me to wash my face, brush my hair, and put on a little bit of makeup. My appearance is like my mini project every morning because when I look good, I feel good; and when I feel good, I do good work. If I did not try to look my best everyday and change out of my sweats in the morning, I would get nothing done. If fashion isn’t your thing, no biggie. You should still put on something that makes you feel confident about yourself like you can take on the world because you can and you will. Go get ‘em.
Tip from Leslie: Get in the Ocean!
A little sun never hurt nobody… probably. The ocean will make you feel renewed and rejuvenated. It’s like a reset button or being baptized by the summer. It also gives you great hair and natural beach waves. (Shameless plug: check out our new Salty Hair collection on our main website.) Sometimes a little vitamin sea is all you need.
Tip from Natty: Get outside!
My favorite way of getting motivated in the morning is walking my dog or going to the beach-- anything to get me outside! A lot of people in San Diego don’t even go to the beach, but they all should. The beach or wherever you may go to walk your dog is hopefully a quiet and peaceful place to mentally prepare yourself for the day or to spend some time with yourself before you go on your way to accomplish all the wonderful and kickass things you want to do. It’s okay to take the morning slow and get some fresh air. If going to the beach is the thing you want to accomplish, well congratulations, you’re already one step ahead of the game!
Tip from Miriam: Plan Outdoor Workout Routines!
If you can’t tell already, Salty Cali ladies LIVE to be outside so naturally, we think it is one of the best places to get some exercise. This could mean surfing, rock climbing, running, swimming, yoga in the park (is that still a thing?)-- whatever you’re comfortable with, or maybe do one of those things to push you out of your comfort zone. And you don’t have to do any of these activities by yourself! Grab some of your best gal pals and go on a miniature hike somewhere. It’ll be a great bonding experience for your friend group while doing something good for your overall mental and physical health. Plus, you’ll probably get some super cute pics out of it for your Insta ;)
Tip from Virginia: Unplug & Recharge!
Everyone says “I need a vacation” so by all means please go on that much needed vacation. It is so hard to stay motivated if you never give yourself a break to recharge. If you just keep going and going, you’re just draining yourself slowly (or quickly). Your vacation does not have to be weeks long or somewhere far away, it can be a simple weekend getaway to a place an hour or two away. Go to a place where you can truly unplug -- that’s right, no phones, no social media, not even Salty Cali’s Instagram (take your jewelry with you though! You still want to look cute on your trip). When you come back, you’ll feel re-energized and ready to take on your next adventure!
There are SO many ways to get motivated and stay motivated. You just have to find what works best for you. We hope that these were helpful so let us know what you think. If you have any tips of your own, we’d love to hear!
Lots of love and good vibes,
